Life News Agency 2017 BLIA Cup International University Basketball Tournament began to officially publish English news

The 2017 BLIA Cup university basketball tournament took place on July 25th at the Kaohsiung Arena. The first match was between last year’s Taiwan UBA 2nd series champion Chung Chou University of Science and Technology vs the 2014 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) champion Vanguard University of Southern California.

Vanguard University, deemed as the probable winner before the game, was blindsided by a Senegal exchange student from Chun Chou University, and the game was led by Chun Chou 64 to 55. As the game came to an end with 1 min and 7 seconds to go, Vanguard’s Donte Williams scored a three pointer bringing the game to 76:65. Then by count down there was a penalty of 4 points defeating Chun Chou with 80:77.

Ban Ba (班霸), a first year student at Chun Chou measuring at 200 cm tall, made a slam dunk to start off the game. Vanguard University’s advantage lied in its speed, and by the end of the first quarter, it led the game with 21 to 15.

In the second quarter, coaches from both teams called for a number of substitutions. Lian Zhiqi (連智啟) from Chung Chou and Malachi Hoosein from Vanguard both became the highest scorer with 7 points each. The score was 41 Chung Chou to 43 Vanguard at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Chung Chou University not only dunked the first score, but also played defensively which reduced Vanguards chance of a second attack. The third quarter had Chung Chou in a 64:55 lead over Vanguard by 9 points.

In the last quarter, Vanguard University’s Connor Griffin scored 8 points in the basket in a timely manner, while Hoosein contributed with 7 points, this was in addition to the 7 points made by Williams at the very end of the game. Vanguard University won with 80:77 in the BLIA Cup opener.
